The "Visually Impaired" program has been working in "Hesed-Besht" since the very beginning of the foundation's existence.
"Talking Book", tape recorders, magnifiers, glasses – Chesed does a lot, to facilitate and improve the quality of life of visually impaired clients.
About blind clients – special conversation. Blindness is considered one of the most serious ailments. However, there are many people, seemingly sighted, but not suspecting hidden eye diseases – glaucoma, retinal problem, brewing cataract. You need to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist at the clinic a week in advance, but to bedridden clients and this is not available. So glasses of dubious quality pay off "by eye" in the market, often exacerbating already poor eyesight.
October-November 2005 year, the program "Visually Impaired" decided to come to grips with the preventive examination of clients of Hesed. Agreed with a serious company, which provided the services of an ophthalmologist at half price (today you have to pay for everything). Twenty-five patients fully examined their eyes in the office using modern equipment. Fifteen of them got glasses. Two were recommended urgent cataract removal.
AND, finally, ophthalmologist examined ten bedridden clients at home, who are under patronage and to which even the local therapist visits very rarely.
Ophthalmologist visit to a lying person – not just a share. It is also a huge psychological support.. After all, for a lying person, hurt the clarity of mind, the only window to the world – this is a newspaper magazine, TV.
After the doctor's visit, we ordered glasses, brought magnifiers. People literally perked up. And the doctor, seeing what kind of care Hesed surrounds his wards, already on his own initiative made repeated visits (Hesed's car was at his disposal).
90-summer Sarah Roich, participant of the 6L combat operations of the Second World War, lies with a hip fracture, suffers from glaucoma. She had such a high intraocular pressure on her first visit to the doctor., that the eye could not be touched. Oculist prescribed treatment, and the patronage worker immediately ran to the pharmacy. I had to buy drops for cash, because. was precious every hour – Sarah may have lost her sight. During the week, the patronage monitored the regularity of treatment, and it gave the result. During the follow-up visit, the doctor noted a significant improvement, described further procedures and promised to visit the patient again in a month.
70-summer Nina Aleksandrovna Dyshlevskaya saw almost nothing due to severe cataracts. Considering, that her husband is blind, there were problems in family life. After a professional examination, Hesed paid for an operation to remove a cataract. Vision recovered from 10% to 70%.
Nina Alexandrovna did not believe herself, is talking, what is learning to watch again. And she is immensely grateful to Hesed-Besht and the Joint, without which good intentions would hardly be embodied in reality.
